		<description><![CDATA[<p>Dried seeds (caraway and celery), fruits (allspice and chilies), roots (sassafras, angelica, sarsaparilla, licorice and horseradish) and barks (cinnamon) make up the family called Spices. Used in small quantities they are used as food additives or more specifically flavoring for foods. Spices are usually ground into a powder, unlike herbs which are the leafy part of a plant, which can be used fresh or dried, like basil or oregano.</p>
<p>Certain of the spices serve multiple purposes, such as turmeric which is also a preservative; licorice and garlic which are also used medicinally and garlic which is also used as a vegetable. Some spices are used in religious rituals, burning sage is used by the Native Americans in many of their rituals for cleansing; however, sage is actually an herb.</p>
<p>Cinnamon is used as a base for many perfumes, including Tabu by Cody. Spices have been around sin the beginning of human history, and were some of the most valuable trade items in the world in ancient times.</p>
<p>Joseph was sold to spice merchants and the male speaker in the Song of Solomon refers to his love as many types of spices. Explorers including Vasco Da Gama, who sailed to India from Portugal, and Christopher Columbus, both were either in search of spices, or used the find of new spices to peak the interest of investors in their travels.</p>
<p>Spices have been used for centuries to excite the senses and defend against illness.  Cinnamon not only tastes good, but has been show to reduce the growth of bacteria that may cause food poisoning, this includes only 1 teaspoon in bottled apple juice.</p>
<p>Garlic, sage and clove assist in keeping cooked hamburger from spoiling by cutting down on food contamination.  Using spices on your outdoor cooking could keep a picnic from being ruined by food poisoning.</p>
<p>Spices are an amazing part of cooking, increasing not only the aroma and flavor of food, but as a serious part of remaining healthy.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>One of the favorite foods at most cook outs are ribs and tenderness is a major part of the enjoyment! No one likes to bite into a rib and have to chew and chew just to get it off the bone, this recipe works for either pork or beef ribs, and everyone will want to know how you made them so tender.</p>
<p>To make ribs that are fall of the bone tender, boil them first in beer, or if you have a problem cooking with alcohol, use water with a couple of teaspoons of yeast. The yeast breaks down the meat, causing the tenderness. I found out about this secret when I had ribs at a friends cookout one year, they were by far the best ribs I had ever eaten, I asked her the secret and she told me to boil them in beer first.</p>
<p>Cooking in alcohol removes the alcoholic content, but some people still have a problem with the idea of using alcohol to cook with, so yeast works just as well.  (It is after all the yeast in the beer that does the trick!)</p>
<p>Boil the ribs in the beer or yeast water for about two hours, then place in a baking pan, cover with bar-b-que sauce and refrigerate until ready for use.</p>
<p>You can also prepare these in the oven or even in an electric skillet.  In the oven, broil them approximately 10 minutes, coating with sauce and turning after 5 minutes, since they are already cooked, it is just a process of flavoring them with the sauce.</p>
<p>To cook ribs in an electric skillet, turn the skillet to simmer, put ribs in pan and cover, do not open the vent, this allows them to cook in their own steam. Cook them for a couple of hours turning after the first hour, and coat with sauce after you turn them. Enjoy!</p>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>Even though salads have been enjoyed since ancient times, the variety can be both tempting and visually pleasing. As we become more and more health conscious, salads become more popular. Usually people think of vegetables when salads are mentioned.</p>
<p>However, there are numerous fruit salads at every family gathering and pot-luck in the country! Salads can contain anything from apples to zucchini and anything in between, just use your imagination.</p>
<p>Although lettuce has been the starting point for most salads, there are many other foods<br />
favorites you can start with:</p>
<p>*Watercress, cabbage or spinach</p>
<p>*Oranges, apples or grapefruit</p>
<p>*Beans or frozen peas</p>
<p>*Broccoli</p>
<p>*Potatoes</p>
<p>*Meats and seafood</p>
<p>Just about any food you can think of can be turned into a salad with a modest amount of creativity! You can create many kinds of salads:</p>
<p>*Jell-o salads with fruit</p>
<p>*Fruit salads with yogurt</p>
<p>*Green salads with every kind of<br />
vegetable imaginable</p>
<p>*Coleslaw</p>
<p>*Potato salad</p>
<p>*Tuna salad</p>
<p>*Chicken salad</p>
<p>Again, the varieties are endless, and the list can go on and on to eternity.  One of my favorites includes a green salad with sunflower seeds or cashews, lettuce, tomatoes, celery, onions, carrots and ranch dressing.</p>
<p>With the dressings you can get just as creative, ranch, French, blue cheese and Italian are your basic dressings. Now try some of these, mix a little concentrated orange or lemon juice to French dressing or mayonnaise for a delicious fruit salad dressing.</p>
<p>How about a dressing for grapefruit made with, sugar, pepper, paprika, dry mustard,<br />
grapefruit juice and catsup?</p>
<p>Add a little chili powder to concentrated juice, horseradish, a cooked egg and mayonnaise for a spicy new taste.</p>
<p>Every nationality has their own favorite flavors in salads, get together with a few friends for a salad party; you would be amazed at the variety you will see.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>If you want a real cooking challenge, go from cooking for a large family, to cooking for one<br />
or two!  Most recipes make 4 to 6 servings, which is just too much for one or two people. Here are a few tips, including a chart to reduce ingredients that will make cooking for fewer people a lot easier, without an abundance of leftovers!</p>
<p>One of the first things to think about is that smaller portions require smaller tools; you won&#8217;t really need a large crock-pot for a meal for one or two. Remember also that large casserole dishes, cake pans etc. are too large, they allow for too much evaporation.</p>
<p>There are many scaled down baking dishes available, as well as crock-pots, electric skillets, coffee pots, and toaster ovens, choose a pan that is slightly larger than the amount you will be cooking.</p>
<p>If you are like me, you love biscuits, there are many frozen biscuits on the market, and all  you need do is take out one or two. If you like your own biscuits, just make a batch and freeze them on a cookie sheet covered in wax paper, when they are frozen, put in a freezer bag. When you want biscuits, take out the number you want and bake them.<br />
Cooking times may also need to be adjusted; a good instant-read thermometer is<br />
invaluable for this.</p>
<p>Remember reducing your ingredients is invaluable when you only want to make a certain amount. Reduce smart!</p>

<p>However, there is the option of organically preparing your own homemade baby foods, from the food you prepare for you own family, using just a few adjustments, depending on the child&#8217;s age. Always talk to your doctor before putting your child on solid foods, and remember that a baby&#8217;s digestive track is much more sensitive to spices and solid foods than a toddlers or adults.</p>
<p>When preparing organic baby foods, cooking time and tenderness are important, a blender or a food processor is a necessity. Start with low acid foods and juices, apple juice and applesauce seem to be a standard starting diet when changing a child from formula to solid organic baby foods.</p>
<p>Applesauce is one of the easiest organic foods there is to make, simply peal and core the apples, cut up and place in a saucepan, cover with water and cook until apples are tender. When cooled, place in a blender and add a touch of honey to sweeten, blend completely and place in an airtight container until ready to use.</p>
<p>Carrots or peas are also a food that babies are started on early, again, cook until tender and cool, blend and place in airtight container until ready to use.</p>
<p>Another homemade baby food recipe uses the natural taste of peas and carrots. These two vegetables together are great, and they don&#8217;t normally need any additives. As your baby becomes familiar with solid foods, you can begin to add more variety to their diet, always being aware of the sensitivity of their digestive abilities.</p>
<p>Almost anything your family eats can be made into organic homemade baby food just go<br />
easy on additives when you start out.  It is always better to make it too bland than to add to much seasoning.</p>

I think it&#8217;s fairly safe to say that everyone for the most part enjoys some level of Italian cuisine. If you think you don&#8217;t, you may want to be reminded of a little dish known as pizza. Ah ha, you do like Italian cooking. So now the big question is; what is your absolute favorite Italian dish?</p>
<p>When it comes to Italian cooking recipes, my family certainly goes gaga over classic spaghetti and meatballs. This stuff is the bomb! If you haven&#8217;t had any that you&#8217;ve liked, then maybe you haven&#8217;t had the right recipe. There are oodles of Italian cooking recipes out there that vary from one another. The key is finding the ones that you truly enjoy.</p>
<p>Take lasagna for instance. This is an amazing Italian dish if prepared the way you like it. This basically means that you need the right ingredients that pertain to you. What do you like/prefer? That is the key in any and all Italian cooking recipes, or any cuisines for that matter. I love a great vegetable lasagna. All those fresh and delectable vegetables hit the spot if you ask me.</p>
<p>On the other hand, my brother hates virtually all vegetables. This steers him more toward a classic meat lasagna. Is that also your preference? Choose from a variety of meats like veal, chicken, and more. You can&#8217;t lose with Italian cooking recipes if you prepare them the right way.</p>
<p>I would have to bet that when it comes to Italian cooking recipes, pizza clearly takes the award. Billions of pizzas are literally sold every single year. Just here in my house we order a couple pizzas each week. I guess you could say we&#8217;re doing our contributing to the pizza craze. 		<description><![CDATA[<p>I love my food and have quite eclectic tastes. I like Indian, Chinese, Spanish and Mexican cuisine. However, my favorite is Italian cooking. Italian restaurants are the best. They have the friendliest waiters and the best atmosphere. As well as eating out, I like to experiment with Italian cooking myself, with varying degrees of success!</p>
<p>I imagine that the everyday food of the Italians and the restaurant dishes we are all familiar with are somewhat different. I&#8217;d like to go to Tuscany and be invited into the home of an ordinary family. I bet the meals would be incredible. I think Peasant cooking is the term. That&#8217;s not an insult, it just means cooking with fresh ingredients and blending them well. No need for fancy sauces. Sometimes, a hunk of freshly baked bread, a slice of Gorgonzola cheese and a good wine can be the finest meal in the world.</p>
<p>There are specialist cooking vacations available, where you can go somewhere lovely and be taught how to cook by an expert. I&#8217;d love to do an Italian cooking one and come home able to make the perfect spaghetti sauce. Every Italian family is supposed to have a secret recipe for the sauce and pass it on to the next generation or take it to their grave.</p>
<p>Perhaps I am romanticising Italian coking a little. I know that the frantic lifestyle of people, especially in cities, is having an effect on the cooking traditions of different countries. It&#8217;s reported that the younger generation of French women, who have careers, don&#8217;t have the same interest in cooking. I hope that this doesn&#8217;t affect Italian cooking too badly, and they don&#8217;t succumb to microwaved ready meals like the rest of us.</p>
<p>Many people think that Italian food amounts to pizza and pasta. Whilst these are popular, there is so much more variety to Italian cooking than that and regional differences add to the enjoyment. Italians, I was surprised to learn, eat pasta as a starter and not as a main course. You don&#8217;t need a lot of elaborate tools to cook Italian, but a good cheese grater is a boon as is a pasta making machine if you intend to have delicious home made. When you&#8217;re cooking pasta or rice, aim for al dente, there&#8217;s nothing worse than soggy lumps.</p>
<p>I like the little antipasti starters. The ingredients are often preserved meats such as salami or prosciutto and seafood like mussels and prawns. Throw in some figs and melons and it&#8217;s delicious. Italian cooking contains many soup recipes and they are often thick and nutritious. Leftovers can be used, even pasta. Stews are also very popular and my favorite main course is Roman Beef Stew, made with beef and bacon cooked in red wine.</p>
<p>I have a herb garden and I like to grow the herbs that are used regularly in Italian cooking, namely oregano, rosemary, basil and marjoram. I make my own salad dressings and I buy Italian bread whenever I can. All I need then is some sunshine and I can pretend I&#8217;m in an Italian courtyard.</p>
